Tracheomalacia, a soft long-segment stenosis, can occur because the body's own cartilage rings have lost their support function. The trachea can be held open by stitching on alloplastic support rings. Compared to other therapeutic procedures, this method of tracheopexy in particular offers benefits associated with the right choice of the implant material. High elasticity and stability are both important material characteristics that play a dicisive role.
In cooperation with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University Hospital of Lübeck, Germany, Kurz developed titanium trachea support rings (a) that completely fulfill individual tracheopexy require-ments due to their design-related functionality. Corresponding to the anatomic conditions, the trachea support rings are available in three different sizes.
The appropriate size can be easily and quickly determined with the sizer set (b and c).
