KURZ GmbH launches the Ω CONNECTOR - an optional modular system – for total ossicular chain reconstruction.
Prosthesis instability or dislocation are inherent risks associated with total middle ear ossicle reconstruction with absent incus and missing stapes arch. During surgery, additional complications may arise due to each patient’s unique anatomical features. Having a variety of shoe geometries would seem highly beneficial, however, these must be readily available during surgery and a generally larger shoe introduces the risk of undesirable contact with surrounding structures in the oval niche.
In close conjunction with G. Schmid MD, Reutlingen, Germany KURZ has developed the Ω CONNECTOR. Given the appropriate spatial conditions in the oval niche, this optional base provides maximum contact to the stapes footplate. It is connected to the prosthesis shaft with a miniscule ball joint. The resulting flexible joint connection is adjustable in all directions: It may overcome spatial alignments of footplate and tympanic membrane or malleus and balances postoperative movements of the tympanic membrane.
The Ω CONNECTOR is sterile and individually packed and can be used with all KURZ® Total Prostheses with a circular hollow stem.
